Kakimoto Shrine

The enshrined deity is KAKINOMOTO no Hitomaro*, a poet appearing in “Manyoshu,” Japan’s oldest existing collection of waka poems believed to have been compiled in the 8th century.
*KAKIMOTO no Hitomaro was a Japanese waka poet and aristocrat of the late Asuka period (538-710).
It is said that the shrine started when the tomb of Hitomaro, who died in Iwami Province (Masuda City, Shimane prefecture), was moved in 770, and a shrine pavilion was built beside it.
The “Chinponkanpon-sai Festival” takes place on April 18 every year, the death day of Hitomaro, together with Yogenji Temple next to the shrine, There is a burial mound associated with KAKINOMOTO no Hitomaro, who composed a waka poem depicting Mt. Katsuragi.

Yashikiyama Park, located at the foot of Mt. Katsuragi, is a park rich in nature and blessed with greenery, wherein you can get up close and personal with the nature of the four seasons. It's widely enjoyed by people who live in the city, and those who come from neighboring areas, as well.
The park has a central community center, a gymnasium, sports fields, and other facilities, making it a hub for cultural activities.

Hakanishi jinja Shrine

The deities worshipped at Hakunishi Shrine are Shitateruhime in the north hall, and Sugawara no Michizane in the south hall.

Chionji Temple

This temple is the Fuse Clan's clan temple. It is said to have been founded by the famous monk Gyouki in the early Nara period.
The standing statue of the eleven-faced Kannon, made of a single piece of Japanese cypress, is designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
Reservations are required to visit. For more information, please contact the Commerce, Industry, and Tourism division of Katsuragi City Hall.

* Visits are limited to the Kannon-ko held on the 17th of every month (from 10:00 to 14:00), except for June 17th when viewing is not possible, and the "Yakushi-e" ceremony held on the fourth Sunday of April each year (from 10:00 to 14:00). Please note that no reservation is required.

Katsuragi Sanroku Park

Located at the foot of Mt. Katsuragi, the park is an open space park surround by greenery with an area of over 121,000 square meters.
In the park, you can enjoy seasonal flowers, such as azaleas, cherry flowers, alpine roses, and bush clovers, all year round.
There are a lawn area, an open-air stage, a gate-ball field, a suspension bridge, an arbor, and a children’s square.
At the children’s square, you can play with complex playground equipment and slides or take a walk on trails. Both adults and children can enjoy the park.

*No pet is allowed in the park.

Tsunosashi Jinja Shrine is well-known as the site of Oshimitsunosashikyu Palace, where Iitoyo no himemiko, an imperial family member in the late 5th century, handled the affairs of state.
In those days, it was rare that a woman governed the country.
