2nd Kehaya Chanko Nabe Contest Participant Recruitment

Following last year’s success, we are hosting the 2nd edition of the Chanko Nabe Contest. We are widely inviting recipes for “Chanko Nabe” that utilize a variety of ingredients and soups. By holding this contest, we aim to promote the charm of Chanko Nabe, create new specialties, and collectively work on public relations for Katsuragi City, the birthplace of sumo wrestling.

Application Period

From July 16th, 2024 (Tuesday) to August 30th, 2024 (Friday) [Applications must arrive by August 30th, 2024.]

Eligibility

Open to groups, individuals, businesses, and students, both professionals and amateurs. Anyone can apply. (For elementary school students and below, submissions will be considered as collaborative works with a guardian.)

How to Apply

Fill out all required information on the application form, attach photos of your dish, and submit your entry via the application form, email, postal mail, or in person.

Fill out the required information on the application form available at Katsuragi City Hall, various public facilities within Katsuragi City, Road Station Futakami Park Taima, and Road Station Katsuragi. Attach a photo and send it by mail or bring it in person to the following address.

Application Conditions

(1)The cost of ingredients must be within 2,500 yen for four servings.
(2)Ingredients should consider nutritional balance, including meat (seafood, etc.), vegetables, mushrooms, etc.
(3)Cooking time should be within one hour, including preparation and pre-cooking tasks like cutting ingredients.
(4)Recipes must be original creations; the use of commercially available soup bases or seasonings that significantly determine the taste is prohibited.

Notes

(1)Please submit only one Chanko Nabe per person/group.
(2)Ensure that quantities of ingredients (including seasonings) are accurately and completely stated.
(3)Application forms and photos will not be returned. Costs associated with the application are the responsibility of the applicant.
(4)Copyrights to the entries belong to the applicants, and the organizers will have exclusive usage rights.
(5)Submitted entries (especially prize-winning entries) may be featured in public relations, social media, websites, and media releases.
(6)Entries must be unpublished in other contests or similar events. However, submissions to the 1st Kehaya Chanko Nabe Contest are exempt from this restriction.

Judging Method and Criteria

(1)First Round of Judging: Selection of 6 entries through document review.
(2)Second Round of Judging: Scheduled for November 9th (Saturday), consisting of document review and tasting to select 3 entries.

Tasting will be conducted at the contest venue, where participants will prepare their dish using ingredients for 4 servings as specified on the application form.

* Evaluation Criteria
 ① Appearance: Visual appeal and presentation that makes one want to taste it.
 ② Versatility: Recipe suitable for commercialization and home cooking.
 ③ Originality: Creativity and innovative elements.
 ④ Nutrition: Balanced combination of ingredients without nutritional imbalance.
 ⑤ Local Sourcing: Effective utilization of local ingredients.
* Participants are responsible for the cost of ingredients, cooking utensils, and seasonings in the second round. However, organizers will provide cash equivalent to 10,000 yen for ingredient expenses.

The winning dish will be determined by voting among general attendees and special judges. Participants will prepare servings for 300 portions for the final round, with voting points allocated based on the total votes received.

* Cooking utensils for the final round will be provided by the organizers. However, this does not apply to specialized cooking utensils.
* Organizers will reimburse actual expenses for ingredients. If necessary, organizers can also assist with ingredient procurement, limited to commonly available seasonal ingredients.
* For individuals or small groups finding it challenging to prepare 300 servings, the organizers may provide additional support.
* Due to large-scale cooking requirements, some recipe steps may be adjusted for preparation.
* Organizers will provide information on allergens for 21 items.

Prizes

Winner¥30,000 cash prize and a supplementary prize of Katsuragi City specialty products worth ¥20,000.
Runner-up¥20,000 cash prize and a supplementary prize of Katsuragi City specialty products worth ¥10,000.
3rd Place¥10,000 cash prize and a supplementary prize of Katsuragi City specialty products worth ¥10,000.

Utilization of Outstanding Works

Outstanding entries may potentially be utilized for school meals or commercial product development.

Final Round of the 2nd Kehaya Chanko Nabe Contest  

The final round of the 2nd Kehaya Chanko Nabe Contest is scheduled for February 2024. Further details will be announced as soon as they are confirmed.
