2024 Kehaya Festival

On February 23, 2025 (Sunday), the Kehaya Festival will be held at the Kehayaza Sumo Museum in Katsuragi City in honor of Taima no Kehaya, the founder of sumo wrestling.

Sumo Demonstration and Sumo Jinku

Student rikishi will perform a sumo demonstration in the ring at the Kehayaza Sumo Museum.

Visitors will be able to watch a demonstration of sumo etiquette and training exercises, with commentary by Sumo Hall staff. In addition, the Kehaya Sumo Jinku Association, which is active in Katsuragi City, will perform sumo jinku.

Visit by Tourism Ambassador (Ms. Saeko Kawamoto)

Ms. Nanka Kyokudo (Ms. Saeko Kawamoto), Katsuragi City Tourism Ambassador, will present a storytelling performance.

Overall Schedule

  • 08:45 a.m.: Registration
  • 09:00 a.m.: Opening ceremony
  • 09:15 a.m.: Sumo jinku performance
  • 09:25 a.m.: Storytelling performance by Ms. Saeko Kawamoto (Nanka Kyokudo)
  • 10:00 a.m.: Sumo demonstration/open training session
  • 10:30 a.m.: Closing ceremony

Parking Information

Due to expected congestion on the day of the event, the Rural Square will be available for use as a temporary parking lot.

Furthermore, there are no parking spaces for members of the public at the Kehayaza Sumo Museum on the day of the event, so please use the temporary parking lot.

The final of the 2nd Kehaya Chankonabe Contest will be held on the same day.
