The “Waraji Table Tennis Tournament Yokosuka”, scheduled for February 17, 2024 (Saturday) at the Otsu Community Center 2nd Floor Gymnasium, invites participants of all skill levels, including beginners and those in costume, to compete in this unique sport where we will be using waraji (straw sandals) as rackets.

About “All-Japan Waraji Table Tennis Tournament”

It is said that when Oryo and Ryoma, the first couple in Japan to go on a honeymoon together, traveled, they wore straw sandals throughout their journey. These sandals connected the happy moments of the two.

Turning those sandals into rackets, we are organizing the “8th All-Japan Straw Sandal Table Tennis Tournament” here in Otsu, where Oryo sleeps, aiming to determine the best straw sandal user in Japan. We are also recruiting participants who would like to join in costumes (although participation without costumes is also welcome), making it a fun event for everyone.

Notes

• Participation fee will be collected in cash on the day of the event. Please prepare exact change if possible.
• The event is scheduled to end around 1:00 PM.
• While injury insurance will be provided by the council, please take care to avoid any accidents.
• Please bring your own towel and drinks.
• You may enter the gymnasium wearing your outdoor shoes.
• Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for physical activity.
• If you need to use the changing room, please notify us by the day of the event.
• Please take responsibility for your valuables. The council cannot be held liable for any loss or theft.
• Due to limited parking space, we kindly request that you refrain from arriving by car.
• Photos taken by the council may be used for promotional purposes.
• Family and friends of participants are welcome to attend.
• “Cheer Award” and “Best Costume Award” will also be presented. Please enjoy participating!
