Fuji Festival 2024: A Spectacle of Japan’s Premier Iris Blooms
There are wild species of wisteria that serve as the basis for cultivated varieties. Two main lineages exist: the “Nodafuji,” which grows west of Honshu, and the “Yamafuji,” which grows in western Japan.
Visitors can enjoy various types of wisteria in Yokosuka Iris Garden.
Among them are:
Kokuryufuji (Black Dragon Wisteria)
A type of Nodafuji with small flowers and long racemes. Its delicate, pale purple color is stunning.
Kyushakufuji (Nine-foot Wisteria, also known as Nodanagafuji)
A cultivated variety of Nodafuji, it produces long racemes of light pink flowers.
Honbenifuji (True Red Wisteria)
Its flowers are a vibrant red, distinguishing it with its vivid color.
Shironodafuji (White Nodafuji)
This variety bears pure white flowers, exuding an elegant charm.
Yae Kokuryufuji (Double Black Dragon Wisteria)
A double-flowered form of Kokuryufuji, its luxuriant racemes give off a lavish and flamboyant impression.
These wisteria varieties bloom gloriously throughout the garden, providing visitors with delightful moments.
Yokosuka Iris Garden: One of Japan’s largest Shobu Garden
Yokosuka Iris Garden, one of Japan’s largest, showcases a stunning array of 412 varieties and 140,000 Japanese irises (Shobu) plants spanning 3.8 hectares.
