Kurihama Perry Festival 2024

The Kurihama Tourist Association will hold the “Kurihama Perry Festival 2024” on Saturday, July 13.
This year, the “Kurihama Perry Festival Fireworks Display” will be even more spectacular with around 5,000 fireworks, and the “Yokosuka Kaikoku Bazaar” and “Ceremony of the Landing of Commodore Perry” will be held on the same day! Enjoy the summer features of Kurihama!

Event details: Kurihama Perry Festival 2024

The landing of Commodore Perry marked the beginning of modern Japan in Kurihama. To commemorate this event, we will hold a ceremony, a bazaar organized by residents, and a parade featuring a giant Black Ship float by local schools and organizations. The fireworks display attracts approximately 100,000 visitors each year.

Fireworks: Kurihama Perry Festival 2024

Approximately 5,000 fireworks will be launched! Various fireworks, including starmines, will beautifully illuminate Kurihama Beach.

Paid Viewing Seats

At the “2024 Kurihama Perry Festival Fireworks,” there are exclusive paid seating options available for enjoying the fireworks away from the crowds. These seats are in high demand and typically sell out quickly each year, so it’s advisable to purchase them early to secure your spot!

This year, the number and variety of seats have increased from the usual 3,000 to approximately 5,000 seats.

Yokosuka Kaikoku Bazaar & Night Bazaar

The Kaikoku Bazaar in Yokosuka’s Kurihama features food stalls and stage performances such as Brush Rock and Contrabass Hero along Halload Street. It runs from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

In the evening, the Night Bazaar takes place from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, offering more stalls and activities and creating a festive atmosphere that continues into the night.

Ceremony of the Landing of Commodore Perry

Commemorative ceremony honoring Commodore Perry’s arrival. There are performances by Japanese drums Wadaiko, the Maritime Self-Defense Force band, and the US Navy 7th Fleet band.

Kurihama Flower Park “Hananokuni”

Kurihama Flower Park is a true floral paradise, showcasing a million poppies in the spring and a million cosmos in the autumn, providing vibrant displays throughout the year. If you need a break from walking, you can relax in a foot bath while enjoying the view of aromatic herbs.

For children, the park offers numerous play areas, including an adventure land featuring a Godzilla slide.

Kurihama Flower Park (くりはま花の国) is themed around flowers where visitors can enjoy abundant encounters with lush green nature.

Poppies bloom in spring, while Cosmos flowers enchant visitors in autumn, attracting many to the Herb Garden. Bursting into full bloom from May to July, the garden offers a delightful array of herbs, including lavender for visitors to fully enjoy.


Tokyo-Wan Ferry (Kurihama Port)

The Tokyo-Wan Ferry (Kurihama Port) is a large car ferry connecting Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, to Futtsu City, Chiba Prefecture, in approximately 40 minutes. Enjoy views of the mountains of Miura and the Boso Peninsula, along with luxurious cruise ships, unique to the ferry experience.

Kurihama Tenjinsha Shrine

The shrine, dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of learning, is frequented by many students seeking blessings for academic success, as well as for improvement in various skills, fulfillment of wishes, and protection against forgetfulness.

At the shrine, there is a practice of stroking a wish-granting cow. Devotees stroke parts of the cow corresponding to their ailments or areas they wish to heal, believing that it brings the divine favor of Sugawara no Michizane. Additionally, carefully stroking the cow’s body and head while making a wish is considered beneficial.

Furthermore, there is a fertility dog at the shrine. Followers believe that by stroking the dog based on their Chinese zodiac sign, they can receive blessings for fertility, safe childbirth, and child-rearing.

Kurihama Hachiman Shrine

Kuriohama Hachimangu Shrine is a Shinto shrine located near Keikyu Kuriohama Station, dedicated to Hachiman-sama. The shrine is renowned for the painting of a celestial dragon on the ceiling of its main hall. The divine blessings of the shrine include good fortune and protection from misfortune. Additionally, to the left of the main hall, there is a power stone. This stone is believed to bring benefits for health prayers.
