Holly Jolly Christmas at Thibaudier Mansion!
Over 150 years ago, the entire area around Yokosuka Port was home to the Yokosuka Ironworks, a large factory that produced ships and their components. The chief and deputy chief of the ironworks were the French engineers Verny and Thibaudier.
The “Yokosuka Modern Heritage Museum Thibaudier Mansion” will be hosting a Christmas event inspired by the home countries of these two individuals from France.
About “Yokosuka Modern Heritage Museum Thibaudier Mansion”
The Thibaudier Mansion served as the official residence of Jules Cesar Claude Thibaudier, the deputy chief of the Yokosuka Ironworks. It was constructed around 1869 (Meiji 2) and remained one of the oldest Western-style buildings in Honshu until its dismantling in 2003 (Heisei 15).
The museum showcases actual exhibits featuring the relocated framework, along with displays recounting the history of the Yokosuka Ironworks, which played a foundational role in Japan’s modernization.
