PARKOUR TOP OF JAPAN YOKOSUKA 2024 – Speed Run, Freestyle, and Chase Tag Events

The Parkour Top of Japan competition, which determines the best parkour athlete in Japan, will be held for the second consecutive year at Mikasa Park in Yokosuka, a city known as a hub for urban sports. For the 2024 edition, three events—Speed Run, Freestyle, and Chase Tag—will be held simultaneously, marking a world-first in parkour competitions.

About Parkour
Parkour originated in France as a training discipline, emphasizing efficient movement through running, jumping, and climbing. Initially distinct from competitive sports, parkour focused on personal growth, without an emphasis on winning or rankings.
However, the concept of parkour as a sport emerged, especially in Western countries, to promote and expand the discipline. In 2017, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) officially recognized parkour as a new discipline within gymnastics. In Japan, the Japan Gymnastics Association established the Parkour Commission in 2018, further increasing the sport’s presence in the country. The first Parkour Championship of Japan was held in Awaji Island in 2019, garnering attention nationwide.
The Tokyo Gymnastics Association Parkour Commission not only organizes competitions but also supports athletes, promotes parkour’s core values, and fosters junior talent.
Parkour Disciplines
Speed Run:
Competitors race from the starting point to the finish line, overcoming obstacles as quickly as possible to achieve the fastest time.
Freestyle:
Athletes perform creative movements using the obstacles in the venue and are judged based on their performance scores.
Skill:
Competitors are evaluated on specific parkour skills, such as distance, speed, and height of movements.
Chase Tag:
A dynamic event where one participant tries to tag the other within a designated obstacle-filled area, with the goal of completing the chase in the shortest time.
