Ganjojuin Temple
In 1989, this temple was established by Hojo Tokimasa (1138-1215) who was a Japanese warrior and the father of Hojo Masako, the wife of Minamoto-no-Yoritomo who became the first Shogun of the Kamakura Era (1185–1333).
The initial purpose of the temple was to wish for victory in the war fought by Minamoto-no-Yoritomo against Oshu Fujiwara as revenge against the Heishi Clan and to restore the Genji Clan to power once more.
The five Buddha statues in the collection are designated as national treasures as a masterpiece of Unkei, the leading sculptor of Buddha statues in the Kamakura era.
You can see the impressive Buddha statues up close.
At the temple's store, you can purchase an original Goshuincho (literally, an “honorable stamp/seal book” used by people visiting shrines or temples).
The Goshuincho's cover is the Bishamon Tenryu Statue.
