Once called “the best castle in the Sanin region,” Yonago Castle was built on the mountaintop in the center of today’s Yonago and had a five-story main castle tower and a four-story sub-tower.
Nowadays, any of these buildings were lost, and only stone walls and sites of the towers remain there.
Yet, the overall layout of the castle of those years has been well retained.
The site of the main castle tower commands a panoramic view of the beautiful Mt. Daisen, the Sea of Japan, the downtown, and Lake Nakaumi.
In 2006, the honmaru (castle keep) and the ninomaru (second bailey) were designated as national historic sites.
