Japanese umbrella lore museum

It is said that in 1821, Shuzo Kurayoshiya opened his umbrella shop.
Yonago was once one of the most famous production places of wagasa, the traditional Japanese umbrella, in the western part of Japan.
It used to be a common scene that thousands of umbrellas were dried across the dune that had formed as the quicksand of Hiro River deposited.
At present, the production process of umbrellas is demonstrated by “Yodoe Umbrella Lore Society (Yodoe-gasa Densho no Kai),” and umbrellas are sold as souvenirs.
