Takayama Hachimangu Shrine
The Takayama Hachimangu Shrine enshrining Hachiman, who is worshiped as the tutelary god of warriors, prospered as the guardian deity of the Takayama clan, who were the feudal lords of the Takayama area.
In 749, Hachiman was welcomed from Usa as the guardian deity of the Great Buddha in the Todaiji Temple, and it is said that this Takayama Hachimangu Shrine was the place where he entered Yamato Province.
The main shrine is a building that preserves the features of the late Muromachi era remarkably well, and it has been designated as a national important cultural asset.
