Miyakonojo Historical Museum
This is a historical museum built like a castle on the ruins of the keep of Miyakonojo Castle, which housed the Miyakonojo Shimazu Clan (Hongo Clan) and serves as the origin for the name Miyakonojo.
The museum exhibits valuable ancient documents, swords, and artwork related to the Hongo Clan, as well as stoneware, earthenware, agricultural tools, daily goods, and other pieces of folklore from the Jomon and Yayoi periods that have been excavated in the city. It introduces the history and culture of Miyakonojo.
