Yamanobe Road
Located along the eastern side of the Nara Basin, Yamanobe Road extends out from north to south along the foot of the gorgeous mountains here.
This road is noted in the Nihon Shoki, and it's considered to be the oldest in all of Japan.
This 16km path connects Oomiwa Shrine in Sakurai to Isonokami-jingu Shrine in Tenri, and it's widely used as a scenic hiking trail.
There are lots of sightseeing opportunities along the way as well, including shrines and temples, historical sites from the Kojiki and Manyoshu, and much more.
These deeply historical sites have a sense of wonder that attracts tourists from all over.
