GYOKUSENDO
GYOKUSENDO is a well-established store that offers traditional crafts local to Tsubame.
GYOKUSENDO extends back the Edo period, and was originally founded in 1816.
The store has been designated as an intangible cultural property as well, and more than 300 craftspersons have honed their skills here.
Copper artisans don't hit copper in order to stretch it, but rather hit it to shrink it down.
The more copperware is used the more it will become accustomed to your hands, and it tends to get more glossy as well. The copper itself is punched out by hand from a single copper plate.
The production workshop is open to the public on regular business days.
Enjoy a firsthand glimpse of the work that goes into these products and see how they are made.
