Chuguji Temple
The Chugu-ji Temple, when founded in the Asuka Period (538-710) was originally located some 400 m east of the main hall, but was subsequently moved to its present location during the Muromachi Period (1336–1573).
It is said that the temple was built by Prince Shotoku for his mother, Empress Anahobe no hashihito.
The wooden statue of the Bodhisattva (known as the Nyoirin Kannon) features one of the three most beautiful smiles in the world.
The temple is also famous for the Tenjukoku Shucho, a book of embroidery created by Tachibana no Oiratsume, one of Prince Shotoku's consorts, as a prayer for the repose of his soul.
Both are designated as national treasures.
