Ikaruga Jinja Shrine
The Ikaruga Jinja Shrine was founded in the Heian period (794-1185) by the monk Tansho, from the Horyuji Temple.
The priest was a descendant of Sugawara no Michizane, known as the deity Michizane, and the shrine known as the Tenmanten Shrine or Tenmangu jinja Shrine.
When it was first built, the shrine was located in the Horyuji Temple, but was later moved to its present location
It is located to the north-east of Horyu-ji and guards the demon's gate.
During the traditional autumn festival in mid-October, the local people hold a grand procession to the shrine in front of the Tsumamuro in the Horyu-ji temple.
