Former Marquis Maeda Family Residence
The Marquis Maeda family residence was the main residence of the 16th Lord Maeda Toshitame, a descendant of the former Lord of Kaga.
The buildings were moved from Hongo to Komaba as part of the reconstruction programme in the aftermath of the Great Kanto Earthquake.
It is one of the few remaining examples of a modern upper-class residence including both Western and Japanese styles.
Eight buildings make up the main residence, including the western and Japanese style buildings and corridors, the waiting area for the tea ceremony room, the gate guard's office, the main gate and fences and the entire grounds were designated as national important cultural properties in 2013.
