Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine
The Wakamiya Hachimangu samurai family shrine has been a place of worship throughout the Kamakura and Muromachi periods (12th century to 16th century).
Reputedly Motoyoshi Chosokabe set up camp and prayed there before his first battle, the successful attack on Nagahama Castle (Nagahama, Kochi City) in 1560.
The shrine was subsequently recognized as a place of prayer for victory.
The main hall was later redesigned in the unique "De-tonbo" style, which when viewed from above resembles a dragonfly taking flight with its wings spread like a cross.
