Tonomoto Former Battlefield Ruins
In May 1560, Kunichika Chosokabe made a surprise attack on Nagahama Castle.
The lord of the castle, Mimasaka Okubo, fled and urged Shigetatsu Motoyama to come to his rescue.
2,500 of Motoyama's troops confronted 1,000 enemy troops to retake Nagahama Castle.
Motochika, known for his gentle nature as "Little Princess", proved himself a skilled and brave warrior winning this first battle with a force of about 20 cavalrymen.
There is a monument in Tonohon No.1 Park, reputedly where the dead of the war are buried.
