Senzyoziki Coast
Senzyoziki is a rocky beach that was formed by the uplifting of land in an earthquake in 1792.
Its name, which refers to 1,000 tatami mats, comes from a banquet held on 1,000 tatami mats by a feudal lord of the Tsugaru clan that once ruled this area.
Visitors are able to walk on the rocks, which allows them to feel the size of the site.
Senzyoziki is also popular as a viewing spot for watching the sun set on the Sea of Japan. At Senzyoziki Station, JR’s resort train Resort Shirakami slows down and makes a stop.
