Perry Road
The Perry Road is an about 700-meter-long narrow alley with beautiful willow trees and paved stones where Perry, who landed in Japan from Shimoda Port, marched with about 300 of his subordinates.
Perry’s party passed through this alley on the way to Ryosen-ji Temple where he concluded the Shimoda Treaty, which was an incidental agreement for the Amity between the United States of America and the Empire of Japan.
On the small stone pavement that goes along the Hiraname-gawa River, you can enjoy the lovely landscape typically seen in the coastal areas of Izu, including buildings with namako-kabe walls and “Izu stone warehouses”.
