Minohsan Ryuanji Temple
Minoji Temple was originally built by the Japanese mystic En no Gyoja around the year 650, located near the basin of the Great Minoh Falls. Later, the temple was given an imperial scroll by Emperor Go-Daigo and renamed as the Ryuanji Temple.
The main deity of the temple is Benzaiten, who is said to be the first and oldest deity in Japan. The temple is known as the origin of the mountain worship religion Shugendo, attracting practitioners of the religion from all over Japan.
It is also the birthplace of Japan's first ever lottery called "Tomikuji'' which started over 400 years ago. It is still run every year on the 10th October, and the winners receive a good fortune charm said to bring physical health, family safety, and business prosperity. A must-visit around that date!
