Statue of Noguchi Hideyo
Noguchi Hideyo returned to Japan from the United States in 1915 and visited Minoh with his mother Shika.
He had a welcome banquet at a traditional Japanese restaurant called "Koto no Ya" along the waterfall path. The way Noguchi cared for his aging mother is said to have brought tears to the eyes of everyone at the banquet.
The staff at Koto no Ya were so moved that they invested their own money and received donations from people close to Minoh, and erected this bronze statue of Noguchi Hideyo overlooking the restaurant.
Climb up the stairs along the waterfall path to meet Dr. Noguchi for yourself!
