Accommodation in a Converted Observatory
The Dodaira Observatory "Star and Green Creation Center" was established by repurposing the former Dodaira Observatory of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. It offers unique accommodations in log houses, Mongolian-style tents, and campsites, including guest rooms renovated from the observatory building itself.
Bimonthly stargazing events (reservations required) allow visitors to observe the stars through the 91 cm reflecting telescope, which was the largest telescope made in Japan at the time of its installation.
The facility is located on the summit of Mount Dodaira at an altitude of 876 m, the site of a first-order triangulation station, and offers panoramic views of the Kanto Plain.
