Experience a 360-degree underwater world! Japan's northernmost aquarium

The Noshappu Aquarium is the northernmost aquarium in Japan, opened in 1968 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Hokkaido, the 90th anniversary of the foundation of Wakkanai City, and the 20th anniversary of its inauguration as a municipality.

The aquarium exhibits 1,500 creatures of about 100 species, with a particular focus on northern marine life.
In the 90-ton migratory tank, visitors can enjoy a 360-degree view of arabesque greenlings, rockfish, flounders, and other fish swimming at their leisure.
Sakhalin taimen, the "phantom fish," can also be seen here, and its graceful swimming attracts visitors.

Another attraction of the Noshappu Aquarium is the chance to interact with the adorable harbor seals and Humboldt penguins.
The seal and penguin ponds allow you to observe these animals at close quarters as they frolic and play, and are especially popular with children.
In addition, the aquarium has successfully bred Eumicrotremus pacificus, whose unique shape and adorable appearance are sure to put visitors' hearts at ease.
