Okutama Mukashimichi Road is a historic road that people have walked since ancient times, and it is an attractive hiking course featuring both abundant nature and scenery with an historical atmosphere. The road was once an important transportation route between Edo and Koshu, and even today, it still retains the atmosphere of those days.
Historic buildings such as traditional houses, stone Buddha statues, and dosojin guardian deities, as well as stone monuments, are scattered along the road, reminding travelers of a bygone era.
