One of Japan’s Three Great Pine Groves

Niji no Matsubara, along with Miho no Matsubara and Kehi no Matsubara, is one of Japan’s three great pine groves and is designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty. Spanning about 4.5 km in length and 500 m in width, this grove features approximately one million black pine trees, creating a stunning arc reminiscent of a rainbow.

Planted as a windbreak and coastal defense in the early 17th century, Niji no Matsubara has been carefully preserved by the local community ever since.

You can enjoy the beauty of this pine avenue by driving or cycling along National Route 202 and the cycling path that runs through the grove. Renting a bike and riding through the pine forest is highly recommended for a refreshing experience. The contrast between the green pines and the blue Genkai Sea is captivating.

Niji no Matsubara is also ideal for relaxation. Enjoy a peaceful walk through the quiet pine forest and refresh yourself in nature.
