A Fantastical World of Ice

The "Ashigakubo Icicles" are one of the Three Great Icicle Sites of Chichibu, a magical scenic spot visible only during the winter months.
These works of icy art are formed by natural spring water from the rocks, further enhanced by locals who manually sprinkle water to create even larger and more beautiful formations.
The sheer scale of these icicles, reaching heights of approximately 30 meters and spanning widths of about 200 meters, is truly awe-inspiring.
During the day, they sparkle and shimmer under the sunlight, while at night, they are enveloped in a mystical atmosphere by illuminations.
Especially on weekend nights, the illuminations transform the icicles into a dazzling spectacle, like a jewelry box of ice, with a kaleidoscope of colors lighting up the frozen formations.
The site is conveniently accessible, just a 10-minute walk from Ashigakubo Station on the Seibu Chichibu Line, and you can even catch glimpses of their beauty from the train.

*The event period typically runs from mid-January to late February, but may vary depending on weather and ice conditions. *Weekend illuminations may require advance reservations. *The grounds can be slippery, so warm clothing and non-slip footwear are essential.
