秩父のシンボル

Mount Bukō, an independent peak standing at 1,304 meters above sea level, straddles the border between Chichibu City and Yokoze Town. It is beloved as a symbol of Chichibu.
Its distinctive mountain shape varies depending on the viewing angle. From the Chichibu Basin side, it presents a beautiful, pyramid-like form, while from the Yokoze Town side, its rugged, rocky surface is visible.
Bukōsan Mitake Shrine, located at the summit, is said to have originated when Yamato Takeru enshrined his weapons on Mount Bukō during his eastern expedition, praying for the protection of the Kanto region.
From the summit observation deck behind the shrine, you can enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the Chichibu Basin and the mountains of Oku-Chichibu.
The hiking trail from Yokoze Town has been known as the Omotesando (main approach) since ancient times. Today, it is maintained as a hiking course, popular for its relatively easy access.
