Square Stone (stone compass)

Sailors on ships sailing from Osaka to Hokkaido came to check this direction stone in Hiyori mountain before departure to check the winds and the tide.
The stone compass (direction stone) was necessary for judging wind directions and played an important role.
The stone compass at Fukura Port was donated.
It is made from granite with a diameter of 33cm. A circular magnetic plate that has been extracted is engraved with twelve zodiac animals.
On the side of the base plate, an inscription is engraved horizontally.
