The Sanyo-so hotel was built as the 2nd house for Hisaya Iwasaki who is Yataro Iwasaki*, founder of the former Mitsubishi Zaibatsu in 1929.
It is one of the masterpieces of Japanese-style architecture.
After the war, we began operating as a Japanese-styled hotel, “Sanyo-so hotel”.
*Hisaya Iwasaki: Hisaya is a well-known successful businessman in the Meiji era.As the 3rd generation of the former Mitsubishi Zaibatsu, he was involved in the establishment of the Kirin Brewery, the agricultural administration, and the paper industry, etc..
Also, he modernized the Nagasaki shipyard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and developed the Marunouchi district in Tokyo.
Regarding agricultural business in particular, he has greatly expanded the business of the Koiwai farm in Iwate, the Suehiro Farm in Chiba, in addition to the Korean Peninsula, Sumatra Island and Brazil.
The new wing of the Sanyo-so hotel is a Japanese architecture, Sukiya-zukuri style, built.
The Japanese architect, Togo Murano who received the Order of Culture, designed the new wing.
Considering the harmony with the garden in the east side of the main building and the environment of the site, the architect design of the new wing is amazing.
It has a great reputation.
In March 2017, it was reported to register as the “Registered Tangible Cultural Properties” by the Council for Cultural Affairs in Japan.(Scheduled to register in April)
